about
Emerging like an ornate relic of disenchanted youth, Austin-based sludge-gaze trio Grivo unleashes their ominously catchy debut Elude. Combining slow, methodical hooks with stacks of overdriven amplifiers, Grivo uses heavy guitarwork to write downtempo pop music that expands into a fully immersive experience. Utilizing effects as an active compositional element, Elude’s infectious riffs and soft spoken vocals are brilliantly crafted and paced to allow the saturated guitars and reverb soaked lyrics to fully bloom. Within the massive tidal waves of sound and captivating songwriting, Grivo forges a personal connection that blurs the lines between modern genres.
lyrics
Can’t keep away
I’ve left a thousand times
just to come back
Can’t stay this way
I can taste the emptiness
I know you’ll bring
Pacing your empty halls
Will you still look for me?
Cave in, you’re breaking down
With no one around to blame
He set the snare
She’s lost in revelry
You’re left reeling
Can’t stand the shame?
You’ll feel alive again
When you’re leaving

The title track pulled me into Slow Crush's orbit, but Tremble held me there - alongside Lull from the Hush LP and the whole of Seasurfer's Dive In, it can send me into an altered state of consciousness. The album vibrates with hints and nudges, from Slowdive twangs to a Corgan-esque chord shift, but Slow Crush are their own sound - thick, dark melodic, etherealistic soundscapes with Isa Holliday's vocals both binding the music and rising above it. One of the best bands in years. sentientpoet
The video for "Theurgist," from True Widow's forthcoming "Avvolgere," is as prismatic & hypnotic as the song it accompanies. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 15, 2016
Sludge, Shoegaze, Atmospheric, Heavy Metal, Alt-metal, you name it. This album has it all, and it is perfect. It came out during a rough time period of my life and others lives too. It's been the soundtrack for all of my pain. Thank you Hum tawper
